The Mungo Scott building's 100th birthday and project wrap-up

The Reactivate team have been lucky to lead the creative and cultural programming, community development and activation of the heritage Mungo Scott building in Sydney’s Flour Mill of Summer Hill for the past few years.

First opened in 1922 by Australian Flour Millers Mungo Scott Ltd, the Mungo Scott building was used as a flour processing facility until 2009 when it was then operated by Allied Mills. During that time, the building served as a key link in the supply chain from the wheat fields of regional NSW to the kitchens and bakeries of Sydney. This year, the building, which was sensitively refurbished by EG Funds and Daiwa House Australia, turns 100!

Despite Covid-19 we’ve had a great time incubating local community groups such as the Inner West Amateur Bee Keeping Association, the local Summer Hill Choir, and the Sydney Uni Piano Society as well as running countless artist residencies, ‘live and local’ festivals, exhibitions, charity events and health and wellness initiatives for the local community.

We also managed the provision of much-needed temporary creative spaces for film, photography, music, dance and performance use, which helped support the arts industry during and post Covid-19.

As we wrap up our appointment on the project, we’d like to thank our long-term partners EG Funds, for bringing us along on this journey and the Little Big House for their support and ongoing work in the community. Check out some highlights of some of the great things that have happened over the past few years!
