We’re pleased to be collaborating with leading Australian architecture practice, NH Architecture who are leading the redevelopment of the historic Kingston Arts Precinct for the Suburban Land Agency (SLA) in Australia’s capital, Canberra. This strategic partnership will welcome culture, community, and creativity into the fabric of Canberra's artistic landscape.
The redevelopment plan includes the creation of retail spaces, accommodations for artists in residence, innovative buildings for arts organisations, and a versatile open events space. Leveraging the site's rich heritage assets, the project pays homage to the former Powerhouse, a landmark completed in 1915 that holds a special place in Canberra's architectural history. Following the completion of the comprehensive Place Brief, the project envisions the transformation of the precinct into a "world-class" cultural and visual arts destination, solidifying its place as a cultural hub in Canberra.
NH Architecture, in partnership with Reactivate Consulting and a range of other leading consultants such as Rush Wright and Arup, now bears the responsibility of turning the vision outlined in the projects Place Brief into a tangible reality. The redesigned precinct will prioritise the celebration of local Ngunnawal culture, positioning it at the heart of the site's artistic, cultural, and creative opportunities.
Over the next 12 months, the project team, led by NH Architecture, will craft a concept design for the new subdivision and arts buildings. Community engagement and collaboration with arts organisations will be integral to the design process, ensuring that the redevelopment aligns with the diverse needs and aspirations of the Canberra community.
Reactivate will be assisting the project team with an events overlay and strategy for the precinct as well as initial design thinking and experience planning.
We look forward to designing a wonderfully activated site that is a thriving, successful destination for arts and culture.
