CAMPSIE STREET FESTIVAL, NSW

Project Type: Place Activation Design and Delivery

Year: 2022

Client: City of Canterbury Bankstown

Reactivate was engaged by the Canterbury Bankstown Council to deliver the Campsie Street Festival as part of The Festival of Place – Open Streets. Reactivate created a team to design a street party that was for the community of Campsie with the aim of supporting the economic and social recovery of the centre post lockdown.

We selected Dylan Goh to curate a fantastic program of artists and performers. He has led a process with a theme of explosion of culture and energy with an exciting line up that showcased great Asian-Australian talent. Teik-Kim Pok supported Reactivate in engaging with the local businesses and restaurants to program food service in the food stalls, which focuses on the exciting specialities of this Chinese Malaysian food destination. Sold Out were our events partner who brought to life the complex project across a large site and road closure that saw over 50,000 people attend the street festival in May 2022.

The street party featured hawker stalls from local businesses only and focused on driving visitors into the existing shops rather than importing vendors. Over 50 artists performed over the weekend including local schools, community groups plus a dance battle with over 50 dancers battling!
